In
May 1884, a building was completed near the present entrance of the race course which would
act as a church and a school. The first teacher was Mr John Grigg.
Lessons began in October 1884 with an enrolment of 29 boys and 27
girls.
The present site of the school in Young street, was acquired in 1888 and a weatherboard building was erected. Mr David Berry was appointed as the Principal in April 1888 and the new school was occupied.
In 1927 a new brick building was erected with 2 large well lit classrooms with dual desks and seats with back rests. This was a vast improvement on the old school which had been demolished.
Enrolments reached a peak in 1971 when 105 children attended the school. The new brick kindergarten room was officially opened in 1976.
The school's Centenary was celebrated in 1984 with former pupils and teachers reliving wonderful memories of their education at Deepwater School.
Deepwater Public school has continued it's "Learning for Life" motto by delivering high quality, diverse and enriching educational programs throughout it's history.
